"When they are learned they think they are wise..."

This week was my first week of classes. I wasn't really sure what classes I wanted to take, so I signed up for an extra one and planned to drop whichever class didn't fit my schedule, liking, etc. One of the classes that I signed up for was a philosophy class, The Nature of Creativity. It sounded interesting. I thought it would be neat to hear someone else's perspective on creativity and thought. It was the class that I was considering dropping, partly because it was 7-10 pm on Thursday nights.

Well, last Thursday was the first (and for me, the last) class. The professor was an older man who was definitely a philosopher. I think that it was all just a little too philosophical for me. The first class discussion was called "Spirituality and Creativity." It was...interesting. He started with a general overview of the work that he has done in the past and then moved on to the topic at hand. "There are people," he began, "who think of a being, God, who is a creator, and that we, in striving to emulate this being, are being creative. Of course this is completely ridiculous..." He then proceeded to quote various different sources on the topic of religion and spirituality. It would usually go something like this: "Person A said this about religion, but that is wrong because I think A, B, and C. Person B once said that about religion, but it also falls short because I think D, E, and F." As I was sitting patiently to his discussion, I kept thinking to my self, "Wow! You really think a lot about yourself don't you." I didn't say this. Today, however, I was thinking about writing this post, and I remembered the scripture in 2 Nephi which is the title of this posting. I really have decided that some people can be absolutely brilliant, but at the same time, miss the most vital truths about life.

Oh well, I'm not going to be taking that class. I had considered staying to see what the discussions would be like in the upcoming weeks, but he was trying to kick people out of the class anyway. The class was about 20 people in size, and he wanted it to be closer to 5 or 10. I guess when you are an old professor, they let you make up the rules for your class.

Well this turned into a longer post than I had planned (most of mine seem that way). I will wrap this up by saying that I am enjoying my other classes. I think that they will be fun. This semester will be a very interesting one. I have to balance classes, research, and a social life. I guess that's the college experience. Yay!

Oh yeah, I said I'd post a picture with every post, so here is one (not necessarily from this week):

(Yes I look ugly, but that's what the Internet is for, right?)
